Essay writing is not a talent. It is a process that one can learn if one is willing to acquire certain strategies and practice them. Writing is perhaps the most useful of all skills. As an employee or a boss of a company you will often need to write, e.g. a report or correspond with customers, the bank, insurers, etc. As a student you will have to write business letters, reports, essays or dissertations. As a graduate you will need to write letters of application for a job, admission to a University for post-graduate studies, your C.V., etc.

Good writing requires good command of the foreign language, ie. grammar, syntax, organization.

You will have to take care of the style you use, distinguish between formal-informal style according to the situation, organize your thoughts or ideas and express them clearly and concisely, and finally choose the mature style needed in academic writing.

It is, therefore, the purpose of this book to help University students acquire the ability to organize their thoughts, command good structures in the foreign language and manage to write effectively and in the appropriate style.
